About Nigeria
Nigeria is close to the heart of Active Service Trust, not least because our Mission Directors, David and Gwenyth Carling, had many years of service there.
Nigeria is a huge country in size and the most populous in Africa - a nation of over 140 million people, predominantly Muslim in the North and Christian in the south.
In recent times, the church in the north and central Nigeria has fallen victim to aggression and violence from the Islamic terrorism. The persecution is often sudden and instantaneous with no prior warning.
In 2006 many churches were razed to the ground and Christians were attacked and killed.
Unfortunately, this pattern is repeated all too frequently, the most recent outburst in January 2010.
Active Service Trust have a long standing relationship with Mark Lipdo of Stefanos Foundation, a Nigerian organization whose aim is to help Nigerian Christians who have suffered aggression, and who find themselves discriminated against simply because they are Christians.
For example, Christians in the north west are not eligible for the relief funding supplied to the area by the Local Government Authority.
By supporting AST Project Nigeria, you will enable us to send Stefanos Foundation funding to support hurting and displaced families who cannot return safely to their homes at this time.
