Project Nigeria - latest update

As violence in Plateau and Jos continues to unfold, Stefanos Foundation seeks not only to bring relief and trauma counselling to those affected, but to address the root causes of the violence and ensure that prompt, factual and accurate details of the unfolding events are released to the outside world.  With communities, media, security and military in some areas now under a fundamental Islamist agenda, the need for unbiased reporting, advocacy and justice is crucial.

In July, Mark was invited to the UK to speak at the annual conference of the Overseas Feollowship of Nigerian Christians (OFNC).  He was warmly received and we are grateful for what may be the development of a deeper partnership with OFNC which could be significant for Stefanos in terms of spiritual and other resourcing.

Mark returned to the Uk in September to speak at a major event organised by Love Jos campaign, a strong initiative to raise awareness of the serious nature of events unfolding in Nigeria amongst the Nigerian community and others in the UK..

That Mark is being invited to speak at these events is an indicator of how the influence of Stefanos has grown.  Its prompt, factual and detailed reporting of events is being recognised across the globe.  Whilst that work is dangerous and demanding, it is crucial now for Mark to travel as necessary in order to help mobilise the international community to campaign for justice. 

Stefanos Foundation has very limited finances - even staff salaries cannot always be paid on time.  Active Service Trust is committed to the work of Stefanos, and supports wherever the needs are greatest.  This includes helping with Mark's travel costs where necessary, as we see his presence just now at international awareness events as being of crucial importance.
